Gifted female singer-songwriter, Sidney Thompson’s new song, “Light” shines a spotlight on a major problem facing many people throughout the world today. The statistics are staggering. Over 350 million people suffer from depression in the United States alone, and many do not seek treatment out of fear of being stigmatized and end up suffering alone.
Expression of darker emotions is not the norm in a world where putting on a brave face in spite of challenges is expected. But with her powerful, emotionally-charged lyrics, Sidney alludes to her own personal struggle with depression, and finally seeing the light , her own light, beyond the darkness.
When Elle Magazine’s Issue hit the stands in May, including their top picks for Women in Music 2013, featuring Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Angel Haze, Miranda Lambert, Pat Benatar, Haim and others, Sidney Thompson, the 18 year old singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas, was busy in studio finishing up her latest album. In the magazine’s documentary “Behind the Issue-Women in Music 2013”, the viewer is taken on an amazing journey as these talented female music artists share personal stories that include how they first started, (with many beginning in their early teens, like Sidney Thompson) their musical inspirations, intimate thoughts, and more. You can read more about them and their video and photo shoots on Elle Magazine’s website by clicking here.
Set to release her second album later this year, Sidney has been cultivating fresh, new material under the watchful eyes (and ears!) of producer/collaborator Michael Carney and her manager, Jason Frizzell of oneoctober. Plans to shoot her new music video are also underway.
